MANUFACTURED COMPARED TO MODULAR CODES

We are often asked, “What is the difference in a Modular Home and a Manufactured Home?”  In this post, we reveal the REAL answer.

Virginia Homes Building Systems builds a modular home which is built to conform to the same code as a conventional site built home. Our homes are built in compliance with the individual and appropriate state version of the International Residential Code (IRC). This is the same code that any builder contractor in that state would have to build by.

Manufactured Home, commonly referred to as a double-wide or mobile home, is built to comply to the HUD code NOT the IRC. The HUD code is much less demanding in many areas of construction and it is built on a metal frame/chassis which remains a part of the home’s structure.

Modular homes built by Virginia Homes Building Systems do not have a permanent steel frame/chassis and must comply with the more stringent IRC.
